Brazilian Metallurgy, Materials and Mining Association

6th ABM WEEK receives more than 800 technical papers

The largest number of technical works came from the fields of ceramic, composite, and polymeric materials followed by metallurgical fundamentals and processe.

More than 800 contributions submitted for the 6th edition of ABM WEEK This technical-scientific event will be held from June 7 to 9 and will focus on sustainability After a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, ABM WEEK will take place again this year. Its 6th edition will feature 13 simultaneous events and be held at the Pro Magno Centro de Eventos, in São Paulo, from June 7 to 9, 2022.

Latin America’s most important technical-scientific event of the metallurgical, steel, mining, and materials industries, ABM WEEK gathers executives, professionals, researchers, professors, and students from the mining, metallurgical, and materials sector, promoting a stimulating exchange of knowledge, networking, and new business opportunities.

This year, 817 technical works were submitted for ABM WEEK, less than the 929 contributions received in 2019. Nonetheless, this is certainly a milestone to celebrate, according to the event organizers.

“Notwithstanding all the difficulties arising from the pandemic, such as the closure of laboratories and home office work, we received an outstanding number of contributions,” says Valdomiro Roman da Silva, ABM’s director of skills development. The largest number of technical works came from the fields of ceramic, composite, and polymeric materials, with 201 contributions, followed by metallurgical fundamentals and processes, with 106 contributions.
Among the Industrial Seminars, Melting, Refining, and Solidification were the areas that stood out the most, with 85 technical works

Networking and integration

Since its first edition, ABM WEEK has been an important space for knowledge exchange and integration, bringing together professors, students, researchers, and professionals. This year, the space for undergraduate research works has been further expanded with an aim to encourage research and science.

Students will be able to present their work at all events of ABM WEEK and not just at Enemet (National Meeting of Students of Metallurgical, Materials, and Mining Engineering), which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

“Both the Congress and other seminars will include 'Scientific-Technological Undergraduate Research’ among their themes, giving students a great opportunity to present their research to professionals and academics,” says Roman da Silva.

After so many uncertainties created by the pandemic since 2020, the ABM WEEK organizers hope the 6th edition will once again prove to be a fundamental gathering for the industry in Brazil. According to Horacidio Leal Barbosa Filho, CEO of ABM, “plenary sessions, panels, roundtables, and lectures will discuss current themes and attract an audience that, after two years of interruption, is eager to meet again. We’re optimistic.”
