Plenary Session
Mining and Steelmaking Worldwide: A view of Brazilians living abroad
Date: June 08, 2022
Time: 16:30 - 18:30
Place: Auditorium Gerdau
Coordinators:
Debora Oliveira - Director of Communication and International Relations at IABR - Brazil Steel Institute
Francisco Coutinho Dornelas - Consultant and ABM Regional Director in Espírito Santo
Objective:
The mining and steel industries currently face daunting challenges – from shortage of premium quality raw materials and attraction and training of talented people to the adoption of the Industry 4.0 concept. Another highlight is the increasing pressure from environmental control agencies across the globe, foreshadowing the so-called green steel era in the wake of iron ore hydrogen-based reduction processes. The steel industry remains one of the most important drivers of economic development around the world, supported by the mining industry, another key driver. In this panel, the audience will be given updated views on challenges facing the global steel industry, Southeast Asian economic and steel output outlooks, challenges faced by and trends in the U.S. electric steelmaking industry, and differences in steelworker training approaches in Brazil and Germany. Lectures will be given by prominent Brazilian professionals from major industry players, organizations, and universities. They live in England, Singapore, the United States, and Germany and will offer Brazilians an outside perspective. Moderated by another renowned professional from the Brazilian steel industry, with extensive experience abroad and who has recently moved back to Brazil, a Q&A session will take place after the lectures.
