The ABM Week 8th edition, Latin America's largest technical-scientific event in the areas of metallurgy, materials and mining, will take place between September 3 and 5, 2024. It is expected to bring together hundreds of executives, professionals, students, teachers and researchers interested in the topics covered throughout the program. The event will feature round tables, business rounds, panels, a leaders' forum, plenary and technical sessions for the presentation of papers, which are already being accepted in the submission process, with a deadline of May 15.

Authors interested in submitting papers to the 8th ABM Week should do it online at https://www.abmbrasil.com.br/por/trabalhos/abm-week-8-edicao.

Submitted papers will go through an expert evaluation process and, if accepted, the authors will have to make the presentation at the technical sessions in one of the 13 events that make up ABM Week. Authors  may choose whether or not to authorize publication of the paper in the proceedings - which, in the case of non-authorization, preserves its originality for subsequent submissions in other scientific publications.

Follow the step-by-step process for submitting papers.

1. Choice of Knowledge Area and Topic

ABM Week's technical sessions are divided into 14 areas of knowledge, each one with its own topics. To carry out the process of submitting a technical-scientific paper, the first step is to identify which area of knowledge is most aligned with it, from among the options:

  • Undergraduate Research (exclusively for undergraduate students)
  •  Automation and TI
  •  Energy and Utilities
  •  Logistics, Procurement and PCP
  •  Mining
  •  Ore Agglomeration
  •  Ore and Raw Materials Reduction
  •  Melting, Refining and Solidification
  •  Forming Processes and Metal Products
  •  Circular Economy and Sustainability
  •  Maintenance and Project Engineering
  •  Molds, Dies and Tools
  •  Fundamentals and Metallurgical Processes
  •  Polymer, Composite and Ceramic Materials

Once you have chosen the knowledge area, select the topic that best fits with your paper and identify which event it will be directed towards.

2. Adapting the material to the ABM Week template and the standards for paper submission

Once you have chosen the Knowledge area and the Topic in which your paper will be presented, the next step is to download the standard template for the targeted event, which is available on the submission screen.

All papers must follow the standards for paper submission, which include specifications such as a 12-page limit and an format that cotains Introduction, Development and Conclusion. Papers must be sent in Word format (.doc or .docx) and the file submitted must not exceed 10Mb.

Authors wishing to submit papers must follow the steps and fill in all the fields in the submission system, paying special attention to the details of the authors and the name of the presenter.

3. Evaluation and approval of papers

After May 15, the deadline for submissions will be closed and the evaluation stage will begin. All the papers will be evaluated by experts from the Technical Committees and given a score based on pre-established criteria, available for consultation at: https://www.abmbrasil.com.br/avaliar-trabalhos/download/14. This score is the basis for selecting candidatepapers for the awards offered by sponsoring companies.

Authors will be notified as to whether or not their submitted articles has been accepted once the process has been completed.

4. Presentation of papers and publication in ABM Proceedings

The technical-scientific papers approved by the evaluation committees must be presented at the technical sessions held on September 3, 4 and 5, during the ABM Week, which will take place at the PRO MAGNO events center, located in the city of São Paulo – SP, Brazil.

Papers may be presented orally or in poster format, in Portuguese, English or Spanish, but it is recommended that at least the introduction and conclusions be in English. For all events, the presentation for oral sessions must be sent to ABM in advance in .ppt format, following guidelines that will be published in advance. The presentation slides must be in English.

It should be noted that all papers presented in technical sessions, with the prior authorization of the authors, will be published in the ABM Proceedings and receive a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) registration (https://abmproceedings.com.br/).

Papers that are not with the presenter at the stipulated time and place for presentation, will be considered as no-shows and, therefore, will not be published and will not receive a presentation certificate.

Benefits of submitting your paper to ABM Week

As well as sharing knowledge with big names from the mining, metallurgy and materials sectors, the authors of approved papers will have the opportunity to expand their networking and get involved in innovative trends in the industry and academia.

Adding to the potential of the exchange environment provided by the event is the possibility of awarding prizes to the papers that obtain the best scores in the expert evaluations, in accordance with the Association's regulations.

What's new in the 2024 edition

In its 8th edition, ABM Week brings some new features for authors interested in submitting their paper. These include the launch of two new events, the 1st Seminar on Circular Economy and Sustainability, and the 1st Seminar on Maintenance and Project Engineering in Metallurgy and Mining, expanding the range of topics on offer.

Also noteworthy is the mandatory submission of full papers in English for the seminars "Rolling, Metal Forming and Products" and "Steelmaking, Casting and Non-Ferrous Metallurgy".

Another important change in the submission process for the 8th edition of ABM Week is the obligation to provide valid CPF information for all Brazilian authors. It is essential that the author responsible for the submission fills in all the data requested from all the authors involved in the paper. There will be only one subsequent stage, which will be further informed by ABM, in which the responsible author can make additions, changes or corrections to the names and details of the co-authors. It is important to note that after this last stage, the final names and order of the authors informed will appear in the event program and in the ABM Proceedings.
