The 1st ABM-TMS Interamerican Materials Congress, held in conjunction with the 65th Annual Congress of ABM (Brazilian Metallurgical, Materials and Mining Association) and the 18th IFHTSE Congress, was conducted July 26-30, 2010, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This new specialty meeting was an outcome of the TMS Alliance of the Americas strategy (adopted in the early part of the millennium) to work together with society partners in North and South America. The entire meeting was managed by ABM and attracted approximately 1,500 attendees. ABM will host the second installment of this Congress in 2014 during the 69th Annual meeting of ABM, at the 70th anniversary of the founding of ABM. The societies anticipate that this will become a standing Pan American conference series.

Papers will be evaluated by the Editorial Board of the Journal.
Deadline:  July 31st, 2014

Paper submission proceeds totally online, via EES (Elsevier Editorial System)  ees.elsevier.com/jmrt. Further information: www.jmrt.com.br.

Important: The identification of the papers for Pan American Materials Conference - 2014 should be done on the paper, after the Keywords, by the text:
"Paper presented in the form of an abstract as part of the Proceedings of the Pan American Materials Conference, July 21st to 25th, 2014."

Paper submission
The submission and approval of presentations is independent of the publication process.  It is possible for authors to give presentations without paper submission.  Submissions for a special issue of J.M.R.T. dedicated to the Pan American Conference will undergo the same rigorous reviewing process as all articles. The symposium organizers will play a key role inn this endeavor.  The Journal of Materials Research and Technology (JMRT) is a publication of the Brazilian Metallurgical, Materials and Mining Association and publishes four issues per year. JMRT provides an international medium for the publication of theoretical and experimental studies related to Metallurgy, Materials and Minerals research and technology. Appropriate submissions to JMRT should include scientific and/or engineering factors which affect processes and products in the Metallurgy, Materials and Mining areas.

This pioneering event in the Americas has as primary functions:

The creation of a forum for top-level research from the Americas;
Rapid dissemination of information through presentations and publication in the new Elsevier Journal of Materials Research and Technology;
Acceleration of personal interactions and development of new collaborations across the continent.

It follows the TMS-ABM Interamerican Materials Congress, held in conjunction with 65th Annual Congress of ABM (Brazilian Metallurgical, Materials and Mining Association) in July, 2010, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The entire meeting was organized by ABM and attracted approximately 1,000 attendees. This new meeting is an outcome of the TMS Alliance of the Americas strategy to work with society partners in North America and Latin America. ABM will again host the meeting, which we hope that will become a series of conferences Pan Americans. It will occur during the 69th ABM International Annual Congress, at the 70th anniversary of the founding of ABM. ABM and TMS are sponsoring the event and the participating societies are:

VISA Requirement

Brazil requires visas for US citizens. We highly recommend this process to be initiated early because of the enormous number of visas that will be requested for the World Cup. Here is some information copied from the Brazilian Consulate in Los Angeles:

Who needs a tourist visa?
Travelers visiting Brazil on tourism or participating in sports, artistic events and academical conferences (provided that they are not paid for such activities, except for per diem and hotel and travel expenses) require a visa to enter the country.
Citizens of certain countries which maintain a visa waiver agreement with Brazil do not need a visa when traveling on tourism. Please note that U.S. citizens need a visa to enter Brazil.

What do you need to bring to the Consulate to apply for a visa?
Please have the following documents submitted to the Consulate on behalf of each applicant:

-  the applicant's passport, valid for at least 6 months, signed and with at least one visa blank page available (amendment page not accepted);

- the printed receipt page (with barcode) of the online visa application form (https://scedv.serpro.gov.br/); this receipt must be signed by the passport holder (or his parents or legal guardian if a minor) and the photo must be glued on the appropriate box (please fill out the form as completely as possible). You MUST print the Visa Application Receipt (page with a bar code);

NOTE: When you access the online visa application -http://ttps://scedv.serpro.gov.br/ https://scedv.serpro.gov.br/ - you may receive a security warning and see the message: "untrusted connection" or "security certificate's problem". This occurs because the new ICP-Brasil (the security certificate) is not yet automatically recognized by some browsers.
Please be advised that the website you are redirected to is a secure website. The security certificate is issued by the Brazilian company responsible for the software used by the Brazilian Government.

- one recent 2" x 2" passport photo of the applicant, front view, white background (please glue the photo onto the receipt page - see above; note that snapshots and computer pictures are not accepted), maximum 6 (six) months old;

- a photocopy of your round-trip ticket or a booked itinerary showing travel to and from Brazil (confirming the purchase of the ticket, with passenger's name, itinerary, flight number and arrival/departure dates);

- a photocopy of the U.S. Alien Resident Card for foreign residents and/or a valid visa or document to return from Brazil to the US or to another country;

- proof of residency (driver's license, utility bill);

-schedule an appointment (In order to schedule your online appointment you must have the protocol number from your printed visa application form).

The Consulate may request additional information or documentation as deemed necessary.
