Tips for accelerating your transmission

The lenght of transmission depends mainly upon the file's weight (in kilobytes). It is similar to what happens when we attach a file to one of our e-mails.

When inserting images within the body of your document formatted in Word for Windows (See Rules for Work Publishing and Standardizing) you will be adding new files to it, thus adding "weight" to your document as well.

Usually TIF and BMP images (files) are very "heavy".

A way to lower the "weight" of your document is to change the image's format before inserting it in the document. JPG and GIF images (files) are much more "lighter" and appropriate for Internet transmissions. It suffices to convert the images. In a test we picked a file composed of eight pages and four images and, from the initial 6,300KB (6.3MB), we obtained 360KB (0.36MB) solely by converting the images to JPG files.

The great majority of all softwares for image processing perform this task (Photoshop, Paint Shop, Photopaint and others). All you have to do is to open the original image and save it as a JPG or GIF file.

Should you lack such a software in your machine, we recommend LView Pro Winter/2001, whose tryout version can be donwloaded from the web and will work for free during 21 days (after that you'll have to purchase it to keep it running). It works with Windows 95/98/2000 and NT 4.0 and bears only 2.29 Mb. You can download it from http://www.lview.com/downLViewPro.htm
