SANTOS
Although it exudes the charm of seashore hidden-places, Santos does not limit itself to offering sun and beach to tourists; it is a lively city, with metropolitan infrastructure, where visitors feel welcomed in terms of leisure and security. Santos is the ‘Land of Freedom’: the place where José Bonifácio, patriarch of the independence of Brazil, was born. History lies in Santos’ wealthy historic center, with churches, museums and buildings from the colonial and coffee period.

Business encompasses the largest port in Latin America, industries and a strong commerce, which has one of the largest shopping centers in the country, besides renowned universities that have provided qualified labor force year after year.

Circling five out of seven kilometers of beautiful beaches, one can find the largest beach front garden in the world as regarded by in the Guiness Book. Another feature of the city is its high rate of life quality already recognized by the UN.

In sports, Santos is known as the Brazilian triathlon capital and is immortalized by the team in which the athlete of the century, Pelé, has played. As a tribute to the most famous football soccer in the world, Santos Football Soccer Club has an area to welcome visitors and tourists. The club museum, entitled Memorial das Conquistas (Accomplishments Memorial), is one of the main attractions of Urbano Caldeira Stadium (Vila Belmiro) and is nowadays considered the second most visited tourist place in the region, only behind the City Aquarium.

Mendes Convention Center is pioneer in Business Tourism at Baixada Santista, reinforcing its business and tourist vocation, placing the region in the national circuit of big events.

With a population of about 418 thousand inhabitants and a floating population of over three million and 690 thousand people (during the last summer season, considered by the Tourism Secretariat as the period within December 1, 2006 and February 28, 2007), Santos has a per capita income of R$ 2.028,73. This grants the city the title of metropolitan region point in the Atlantic Forest coastline.

Be it in leisure tourism, ecotourism, sports, business tourism, navigation, culture or ocean liners that beat records of embark and disembark at the port, it can be said that Santos has all necessary qualifications and pre-requirements to welcome its visitors with excellence.
