Metallurgic Engineer UFRJ-1975
Docteur D'État - Paris VI 1981
One of the first ones to work with the electrochemistry impedance in the world, introducing this technique in the country. He coordinated several doctor’s and master’s degree courses, using the mentioned technique, and has about 40 articles published on international circuit papers. He is frequently invited to present Keynote Lectures in congresses which envolve the impedance technique. |
Title of the lecture |
Electrochemistry Impedance Technique: Use in Technological Interest Themes.
|
Summary of the spoken topic |
Impedance is an old concept which had its use proposed in the eletrochemistry area in 1956, by Israel Epelboin. The first Ph.D thesis on eletrochemistry using the mentioned technique took place in France, and was presented in 1968. At that time, the instruments for using this technique were totally “handmade”. Only from the first half of the 1970’s, the modern instruments with transferring function were adjusted to the technique, but it was still necessary for the researcher to build his own potentiostat for usage. The first complete commercial systems were proposed in the early 1980’s. Today, there are many options of devices and techniques that allow the correct measurement of the eletrochemical impedance, and this mentioned technique has a wide action field. Our work with it took place in France, under Prof. Epelboin direction. It started in 1977 and in October of that year we showed our first communication with the technique at the Internacional Society of Electrochemistry Conference, in Budapest, Hungary.
In our speech, we will make a short summary on the eletrochemistry impedance basic concept as a linear technique, the care on its measurment assuring the quality of the results obtained. The ways of explaining the results achieved, emphasizing the important parameters to be extracted, aiming at the practical usage of the technique, will be discussed in the same way. Also, the available methods in the market for measuring impedance will also be shown, and the devices that enable to make field measurements, working with batteries will be specially emphasized.
The use of this technique will be summarized by our work group. We will emphasize the practical results achieved in partnership with the national industry. We will also show overall results at the ink and metallic coating areas. We will as well approach results involving the oil and gas industry.
