FUNDAMENTS
Coordinator: Fernando Cosme Rizzo Assunção - PUC-RJ
Corrosion
Coordinator: Luiz Cláudio Cândido - UFOP
Scope: The corrosion phenomenon happens spontaneously in metallic materials on different ways. Therefore, the costs for maintaining, protecting and repairing metallic structures is very high (usually, around 4% of a country’s GDP). It is important to know the characteristics of the metal/environment system to understand the degrading effect of corrosion. The mechanisms of corrosion, as well as protection techniques (metallic coatings, organic (paints) and inorganic coatings, inhibitors, anodic protection, cathodic protection, etc.), project specification and selection of materials, are approached, with the goal of minimizing the effects of corrosion. Thus, the topic usually receives a considerable number of projects, with a significant participation of researchers and students, as well as of professionals in the industrial segment.
Phase Diagrams
Coordinator: André Luiz V. Costa e Silva - IBQN/UFF
Scope: This topic is dedicated to all topics related to phase balance on materials, from experimental measures to determine balances and thermodynamical data, and methods for calculating and representing phase balance to application of knowledge on phase balance. The balance pursuit processes and the use of balance information on the study of these processes are also part of this topic’s scope. There is a special interest on contributions that highlight the application of these knowledges to the project, development, processing and production of materials, as well as to problem solving on these areas. The main focus of the topic is on contributions that involve theoretical and practical aspects of the application of thermodynamics or phase diagrams to metallurgy and materials, as well as projects involving molding phase transformations into materials.
Fracture Mechanics and Structural Integrity
Coordinator: Leonardo Barbosa Godefroid - UFOP
Scope: The Seminar on Fracture Mechanics and Structural Integrity celebrates, this year, its 11th edition without interruption. It is an event consolidated in the industrial/ university universe and which has as main goal to reunite professionals who work in the area of material mechanical behavior, especially in mechanical maintenance, structural project, and quality control of products. There is the presentation of theoretical and practical projects, involving mainly the following themes: tenacity to fracture, fatigue, flowing, corrosion under tension, flaw analysis, molding and laboratory techniques.
Physical Metallurgy
Coordinator: Roberto Ribeiro de Avillez - PUC-RJ
Scope: The projects submitted on the physical metallurgy topic shall approach aspects related to the interactions between microstructure, properties, applications, synthesis and processing of materials, emphasizing the bases and their co-relations. This topic is not restricted to metals, since the bases are common to all types of materials. Especially important are the articles capable of correlating at least three of the aforementioned areas, because they can contribute considerably to the improvement of the quality of applications, synthesis or processing of materials.
Tribology (Friction, Wearing and Lubrication)
Coordinator: Geralda Cristina Duraes de Godoy - UFMG
Scope: The topic tribology (friction, wearing and lubrication) will constitute a privileged forum for presentation and discussion of scientific and technological progresses, as well as case studies aiming to further the knowledge and use of materials for tribology-related applications, especially wearing. Contributions approaching all aspects of tribology – fundamental studies, tribological characteristics of materials, development of tribo-materials, analysis techniques, instrumentation applied to tribology, practical applications and case studies, industrial tribology (problems and solutions, application of wearing as manufacture process, tribology and environment) – will be accepted. Additionally, it is expected to promote and encourage the interaction and collaboration, nationally and internationally, between researchers and the productive sector.
